Two things worth checking first
Occasionally these solve the problem outright, and they are free.
Check the breaker and float switch
A tripped breaker or a condensate float switch that has shut the system down on a full drain pan accounts for a surprising share of “my AC is dead” calls. If the pan is full, the drain line is clogged and you do need us -- but it tells you what is wrong.
Check the filter
A filter clogged solid restricts airflow enough to freeze the evaporator coil, which looks exactly like a refrigerant problem. If there is ice on the copper lines, shut the system off, run the fan only to thaw it, and replace the filter before calling.
